THE NEW TRUPRINT 2000 FROM TRUMPF EVEN MORE PRODUCTIVE AND FLEXIBLE

15 January, 2024

The high-tech company TRUMPF has further increased the productivity of the TruPrint 2000. "This metal additive manufacturing system is now also designed for series production. Users in all industries benefit from the high productivity of this machine," says Mirko De Boni, TRUMPF product manager responsible for the TruPrint 2000. TRUMPF has equipped the 3D printer with a square printing plate instead of the previous round printing plate and has increased the power of the integrated fibre laser to 500 watts as an alternative to the 300-watt laser of the basic configuration. For example, dental technology companies will print up to 36% more removable partial dentures on the square impression plate than on a comparable round impression plate. TRUMPF presented the innovations of the TruPrint 2000 for the first time at Formnext, the leading trade fair for additive manufacturing in Frankfurt.

In addition, the TruPrint 2000 has two lasers that can process the entire printing plate simultaneously. Users can print 80% more components with the multi-laser option than with the single-laser option. "The TruPrint 2000 not only works very productively, but also precisely and with the highest quality," says De Boni. In accordance with the strictest medical standards, medical technology manufacturers use the 3D printer to produce skull plates, spinal inserts or titanium knee joints, for example. "Safety is the top priority for TRUMPF 3D printing, especially in critical areas such as medical technology. With the TruPrint 2000 upgrade, patients receive high-quality implants with even greater long-term stability." If necessary, the TruPrint 2000 also prints these implants in series.

TruPrint 2000, particularly flexible thanks to variable laser size

With the so-called motorised beam expander, the TruPrint 2000 automatically adjusts the laser spot diameter to the task at hand.Depending on the application, the spot diameter is either 55 or 80 micrometres. The 80-micrometre dot allows for higher productivity.Users can use the 55-micron spot when special metal powders require a higher energy density. Now, even the TruPrint 2000 shares the same process conditions as all other TRUMPF machines, thanks to the 80-micron beam size and optimised gas flow."With this standardisation, users can now easily transfer the printing parameters of their parts from one machine to another, for example from a TruPrint 2000 to a TruPrint 1000 or TruPrint 3000, allowing for more flexible manufacturing," says De Boni.
