AZTERLAN INTRODUCES NEW ADVANCED METAL MANUFACTURING CAPABILITIES TO DRIVE THE DEVELOPMENT OF ADVANCED MATERIALS AND COMPONENTS

18 June, 2026AZTERLAN has introduced new metal additive manufacturing capabilities using Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) technology, with the aim of supporting industrial companies in the development of new materials, components and advanced manufacturing strategies.

The new infrastructure will enable the centre to make progress in the manufacture of high-performance metal components, strengthening its activity in the field of advanced materials and additive manufacturing. This investment has been funded by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, as part of the Technology Transfer 2025 programme.

Key areas of work include the development of optimised structures, the manufacture of hybrid components through a combination of conventional and additive processes, the design of advanced lattice architectures, the development of new metal powders, and the validation of solutions for sectors such as electric mobility, energy and capital goods.

These capabilities will strengthen research into the relationship between microstructure, manufacturing processes and the functional behaviour of materials, integrating the development of metal powders, the optimisation of L-PBF processes and the experimental validation of components within a single R&D environment.
