The Mondragon Unibertsitatea plastics and composites technology research group, acknowledged by the Basque Government’s Department of Education, as a consolidated group of Excellence, focuses above all on processing out of structural composite autoclave, addressing topics such as the new RTM and pultrusion variants, curing alternatives, process monitoring, or process and product simulation. The transfer is just as much a priority as the generation of new knowledge, so it works strongly with companies from sectors such as machine-tools (Fagor Arrasate, Danobat, Trimek…), automotive (CIE-Automotive, Batz…) or civil engineering (Acciona, Ulma…). A new research activity has been ongoing since 2016 on the additive manufacturing of plastics and composites for structural applications (Snap-Design Lab, 3D printing workshop). It is an adequate asset for open innovation, providing technologies (printers, software, material characterization) and personnel to carry out technology feasibility studies (new materials, prototypes, industrialisation…).
