IBARMA PARTICIPATES WITH TECNALIA IN PARADDISE, THE EUROPEAN PROJECT THAT COMBINES LASER ADDITION TECHNOLOGIES AND MACHINING TECHNOLOGIES

24 January, 2017

Compared with traditional production processes, additive manufacturing permits savings in the consumption of materials and energy, generating less waste. This is the context within which Paraddise, the European project that seeks to go deeper into the integration of additive manufacturing and machining technologies in the same machine, is framed.

The initiative, coordinated by the Basque technology corporation, Tecnalia, and with the participation of Ibarmia, machine-tool manufacturers from Guipuzcoa, aims to develop the necessary tools and know-how to combine laser addition technologies with the milling and turning of metal parts.

The project is estimated to last for 3 years, and during this time it will work on the development of computer-assisted technology-based tools (Cax), databases, monitoring and control systems, and smart components.

With the objective of bringing additive manufacturing and its benefits to the metal component manufacturing industry, the solution will be integrated in the machine “ZVH 45/1600 Add+Process”, manufactured by Ibarmia and that is currently available in the market.

The Paraddise project is framed within the European programme Horizon 2020, and it counts on the participation of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU)RWTH Aachen University and the companies, Siemens AGPrecitec GmbH & Co. KGGKN Aerospace Norway AS and Michelin. The initiative also has a budget financed by the European Commission amounting to 3.7 million Euros.
